Learning outcomes

After completing this module successfully you will be capable of describing, analyzing, and illustrating the complex relationships between social and design developments. You will be familiar with the debates about social mega-trends and can contribute actively from the design point of view. In your design work you will be capable of incorporating central findings from different scientific fields (this module allows you to set your own specialization).

Module content

Fundamental terms and theoretical approaches to social analysis. Diagnoses of current social theories: from the experience society through the information and knowledge society to the media society. Socio-cultural mega-trends like individualization, acceleration, and globalisation. Aspects of social structures: user groups, especially specific milieu features of user-relevant interests and interpretative perspectives.
