Learning outcomes

After completing this module successfully you will be capable of applying the fundamental user-centred methods and processes of analysis, conceptualisation, development and design of products. Using staged design projects you will have developed the skills of methodical designing and will be able to achieve holistic results in your design process. You will be capable of making simple 3-dimensional models and to present your design results. You will have an overview of the historical context of projects and be able to relate your work to current developments. You will know the basic concepts of the history of design and the sciences.

Module content

Principles and canons of user-oriented analysis, conceptualisation, and design. Practical illustration of the fundamental methods of the design process through or more exemplary projects. Fundamental relationships between form, function, material and their influence on the design process. basic model making techniques for producing 3-dimensional models in appropriate materials. Assembly of a material archive. Fundamental concepts of history: theoretical and practical aims of the field in general and the history of design and media.
