Learning outcomes

After completing this module successfully you will have developed your basic design skills and have demonstrated this in your design work. You will also have recognized the possibilities of the consistent combination of project goals with areas of expertise, e.g. ergonomics, engineering, and theoretical and planning aspects.
In this connection you will have gained experience of various methods and practice of product design. You will have an overview of the historical context and be able to relate your own work to current developments. You will understand ergonomic requirements and be able to relate the individual stages of the design process with the knowledge of other modules, e.g. ergonomics and engineering.
You will be able to work iteratively to generate alternative developments of a product and be capable of developing simulations and prototypes to evaluate successive stages of development.

Module content

Methods and practice of product design and analysis of use during the project phases of research, analysis, problem and goal definition, development of alternatives, selection, and realization. Practice in networking the contents of related modules. Illustration and discussion of exemplary projects as a basis for a subsequent more probing discussion of the relationship between form and function.
