Learning outcomes

After completing this module successfully you will be able to plan and design independently. You will be able to plan and carry out all essential steps and phases of the design process independently while integrating and applying the technical, scientific, and design content of previous modules. You will be in a position to select your own area of specialization, and to develop and optimize your own design process. Just before commencing your Bachelor Thesis you will recognize the possibilities and an application and utilisation of networked methods. You will have developed your ability further to answer practice-oriented questions of product design through innovative solutions.

Module content

Building on your experiences in the practical semester
case studies will demonstrate and practise the planning and creation of innovative products, balancing theory and practice. Questions about the novelty of form and its effect on product semantics will be discussed, and technical and market determining innovation processes included. In exemplary cases studies the experiences of professional designers and industrialists will be explained and analyzed to evaluate the practicability of design proposals. Live projects are sometimes carried out in this module with the aim of exploiting the academic freedom to seek innovative solutions.
