Internet of Things - Design of Networked Systems

The qualification objectives
In the Bachelor's program, the students acquire the ability to apply new user-friendly technologies.
Through grappling creatively with conceptual design, drafting and prototyping, students develop an increased sensitivity and awareness of the quality of detail necessary in product development. The transdisciplinary design-thinking process, as well as intensive research methods already taught in the theories of adjacent sciences, will be applied in the learning modules in cooperation with the Aalen University of Applied Science.

This user-centered, qualitative research creates a common understanding of the needs, the relevance and the conditions of the proper use of technologies between designers and the engineers of the Aalen University of Applied Sciences.

The resulting interdisciplinary scientific skills create the basis and reasoning ability in the development of functional and technical possibilities for interfacing networked hardware and software products.The students are thus able to design cross-linked, heterogeneous systems and product prototypes.

The contents and range of topics offered for project work, as well as the modules in theories of adjacent science, help to instill the ability to contribute to society as a whole. The students will be encouraged to reflect on the problems and opportunities in current social trends and processes of change, to develop solutions and to publicly discuss their concepts and designs. The students are able to realize their concepts in a professional context with engineers and to communicate with them professionally. They learn communication proficiency that develops into an interdisciplinary problem-solving language. They think and act increasingly context-related and they are able to network knowledge flexibly and to apply it in prototyping.

The Program
The students become proficient in appling new user friendly technologies, functional and technical possibilities in the development of interfaces and the networked development of prototypical hardware and software products. Through project work, students learn to design and develop networked, heterogeneous systems and products as well as leaning monitoring and decision-making processes.

The course of studies will be held in cooperation with the bachelor course Internet of Things –Applied Digital Technologies at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences. The students of both universities develop interdisciplinary skills in joint courses and project work.

The Prerequisites
Applicants should posess the advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife), the general or specialized university entrance qualification (allgemeine oder fachgebundene Hochschulreife) or equivalent qualification.

Society, which is increasingly being shaped by the process of digitization, has fundamentally changed both the professional field of design and engineering sciences.
Graduates of the course will take advantage of this potential and the opportunities in business, industry and research.Vocational possibilities for this practial bachelor's degree course are, therefore, to be found in engineering and design offices as well as in development departments and think tanks and in the fields of industry, media and in information management.
As developers of networked systems, the graduates are able to solve problems, fomulate and visualize problem solving approaches, as well as to create prototypes.
The students take on the role of the users and strive for high functionality and process-related quality standards and by using critical reflextion they assume the responsibility in the mediation between the disciplines. They become, therefore, facilitators in the process of interdisciplinary product development, thus creating the interface between engineering, design and user-centered development.

Successful completion and good performance permit admission into the Master's degree program.
