Studying in Schwäbisch Gmünd
Schwäbisch Gmünd has the highest density of designers in Europe and is an ideal place for students. The city of about 70000 is home to more than 120 design offices, advertising agencies, and other creative services. The German Financial Times speaks of “Germany"s secret design capital”.
An entrepeneurial atmosphere attracts new businesses, and the city offers space to fast-growing companies to develop and reach their investment goals fast. Schwäbisch Gmünd, in the Region of East Württemberg, is home today to leading companies in the automobile component branch, metal processing, and light engineering.
In the oldest Staufer city - surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the foothills of the Ostalb range - conditions are good for living, working, and enjoying leisure activities. Most students prefer to live in the historic city centre; rents are reasonable and the University is close. Mediaeval timbered houses and Baroque buildings are attractions in the old centre, with street cafés, rustical wine houses, and many high-quality shops. Schwäbisch Gmünd has a lively cultural scene with museums, exhibitions, concerts, theatres, and readings - something for every taste.
Schwäbisch Gmünd is well placed for travel to surrounding places. The state capital Stuttgart is only about 30 - 40 minutes away on the dual-carriageway B29, and can be reached by Intercity train in just 30 minutes. Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich, Basel, Zurich, and Strassbourg are only about 3 hours distant.
