The University of Design Schwaebisch Gmuend (HfG) invites applications for the position of a

Professor for Design History/Design Research and Exhibition Design Theory (W2 salary group)

Job description and tasks:
This position will include the initiation, coordination and the support of cooperative scientific work on the design theory and history as well as research projects which will make accessible the artifacts stored in the HfG-Ulm Archive. An integral part of this work will include the editorial and didactic arrangement of the teaching content for exhibition theory, planning and management. In addition we require the teaching of design theory, design- and media history for both our BA and MA courses.
We expect a comprehensive teaching concept, excellent knowledge, and experience concerned with interdisciplinary project development in addition to a mentoring students" projects in all of the BA and MA courses.
You will provide the impulse for collaboration with other national and international scientific establishments as well as with government bodies and NGOs capable of providing third party funding. You will also be responsible for the care of contacts with other institutions and design schools.

Qualifications and prerequisites:
Appropriate university degree, outstanding professional achievements and pedagogical aptitude; at least five years of successful vocational practice of which three years have to be outside the academic sector. Willingness to teach in English and active participation in the university's administration.

In the case of first appointments the duration of the contract will be limited. If the candidate's aptitude for the requirements of civil servants have been confirmed-usually after a period of three years-tenure-track equivalent status will be granted. Professor for Interaction Design (W2 salary group)

The position is currently vacant and will be a permanent appointment.

Job description and tasks:
Teaching the entire design process and methods from conception and sketches, to simulation and final realization in the fields of Application Design, Interface Design and Interactive and Networked based Communication Systems.
Applicants should have thorough and well-tested pedagogical concept for teaching interaction design in both theory and practice (1). In addition they should have specialised knowledge and experience in multidisciplinary project development (2), teaching and project mentoring at both BA and MA levels. The successful applicant will be expected to mentor student projects in our BA degree programs Product Design and Communication Design and also the MA program Communication Planning and Design. Furthermore, they will be jointly responsible for the further development of the HfG Media Lab.

The position is currently vacant and will be a temporary appointment terminating on 31 August, 2017.
