Studies at the University

The University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Gestaltung) Schwäbisch Gmünd is a public institution of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

The University has two undergraduate courses in Interaction Design, Communication Design and Product Design. Studies are completed in 7 semesters and lead to the award of a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA), which is recognized throughout Europe and internationally. A further graduate course of three semesters in Communication Planning and Design and Product Planning and Design helps students to develop skills and knowledge and is leads to the award of a Master of Arts degree (MA).

This gives graduating students the chance of a fast start to their career and, after building up a few years of professional experience, to study further at a higher level..

The courses are composed of related units or modules and allow students to set their own emphasis during their studies (Gmünder Model). All design projects are accompanied by complementary seminar, workshop, or lecture modules. The University maintains a culture of open dialogue between its students and the internationally experienced teachers, highly-qualified guest lecturers, and technicians to create a good learning environment.

The University is proud of its international connections. A large number of the students use the opportunity of studying for one semester at one of the University"s international partner institutions.
