Locations of the University

The Main Building

The university building, designed by the architect Martin Elsaesser, has been the headquarters of the university since 1909. During the construction work for the 100th anniversary, it was discovered that the ceilings of the historically protected building were hardly able to bear the weight of the building and that the building did not meet the fire protection requirements. A ceiling replacement and a general refurbishment become unavoidable. In 2010, the renovation work began and the university was temporarily relocated to the Gmünd Tech in Marie-Curie-Strasse 19 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. When the university moved back to Rector-Klaus-Strasse 100 in February 2015, all space, structural and functional deficits were eliminated. New windows and insulation of the inner sides of the outer walls significantly reduced the building’s energy consumption. Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, sanitary and electrical installations were completely renewed. At the beginning of the summer semester in mid-March 2015, the HfG resumed its studies at the Rector-Klaus-Strasse 100.

New Building and the Old Post Office

In a central location – between the train station and the town’s main garden – the University of Applied Sciences Schwäbisch Gmünd moved into new premises winter semester 2014/15. The Gamundia“ area, where the new rooms of the university are located, is directly opposite the train station of the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. On the other side the building borders on the Stadtgarten (town’s main garden), through which the river Rems flows. The new building is connected to the renovated Old Post Office („Alte Post“), in which the university also uses rooms.
