Learning outcomes

After completing this module successfully you will be familiar with the fundamental methods and processes of systematic structural design in the development of products. You will be capable of abstracting project and engineering tasks and of generating concepts and solutions methodically. Based on the analysis and systematic ideation you will be able to solve manageable engineering and design tasks by applying user-, manufacturing-, cost-, and material-oriented engineering principles. You will be capable of constructing geometric bodies using the Rhino CAD programme.

Module content

Foundations of engineering methods and engineering systems. Systematic searches for solutions, generation of ideas, and evaluation processes for concepts and solutions. Basic ergonomic, aesthetic, material, manufacturing, production, strength, cost, and environmental guidelines for design and engineering. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and their aesthetic, technical, ecological, and economic potentials and their influence on engineering and design. Foundations of machine elements and basic introduction to the Rhino CAD programme.
