Learning outcomes

After you have completed this module successfully you will have a sound knowledge of the application of conceptual design methods and strategic planning processes. You will be capable of integrating external and interdisciplinary knowledge in the areas of communication in organizations and companies (corporate identity, corporate design) and will have acquired the skills to solve complex problems working in an interdisciplinary team. You will be capable of introducing and utilizing methods of issue-, stakeholder-, and product management with regard to social and ecological responsibility in product development processes.

Module content

Specialist aspects and methods of product management: product development in accordance with a product strategy; agile product development methods to clarify tasks, aims, resources, competences, influences, task and process planning. Team leadership: teambuilding, team dynamics, team development, communication of goals, project management, discussions with employees, goal-oriented conversations. Worker motivation and self-motivation, Planning resources and costs.

Carrying out project work: Concept development, visual thinking and concept visualization, project development under an overall strategy. Developing an MVP (Minimum viable product) and its evaluation by fast prototyping.

Design strategies for sustainability: Overview over the central aspects of sustainable action (3-column model). Illustration of the transformation of strategies of sustainable business practices and aspects of social and ecological responsibility using different examples in practice. Analysis of familiar design processes for the implementation of criteria, operations, and tools for evaluating sustainable planning and execution of design projects. Study and transfer of models of existing ecological design strategies for product, interaction, and communication design. The aim is to use scientific methods to develop your own models of design strategies for sustainability and attitudes to sustainability.
