Sustainable Design

The appropriate use of raw materials, the recycling and reuse of raw materials from time-expired products, and a move to sustainable raw materials are of great importance in securing development opportunities for future generations. There is still a great need for study to apply this approach to a rethinking of classic product design and to establish a new direction in the discipline. Sustainable design therefore focuses on the didactic and pedagogic concepts of all HfG courses, looking at not only the design processes for products, but also at the planning and conception of the production processes. In addition efforts will concentrate on the little-studied concept of sustainability as a socio-cultural phenomenon, enabling connections to be made with socio-psychological approaches.
